In case you didn’t know, women in America are still making less then men. The fabled “glass ceiling” still exists. Currently, a woman makes about 81% of the salary that a man would make for the same position. That is quite a difference. I always have hope that, as a society, we are moving toward recognizing the special skills that women possess which make them not just equal to our male counterparts but, in some cases, more suited for a position due to our unique temperaments and skill sets. One piece of good news: according to a New York Times article, there are some college majors that lead to a near closing of the wage gap, and mine is one of them.
Women who studied Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Communications, English, Sociology, Graphic Design, or Psychology earn only 1% less than men doing the same job.
Now, the jury is still out on whether or not this finding is related to the fact that no one knows what jobs communications, sociology, or English majors do. Haha.
