It’s a milestone celebration in our house today: Josh and I have been married for 5 years! Hard to believe, I know. I feel like our beautiful wedding was just yesterday. Catch up with my rehash post here.
Here’s a little collage I made last year:
It’s fun to remember this beautiful day. I hope to watch our wedding video and dust off the leather album and reminisce. For example: when the officiant (the person who married us) was over an hour late?! Or when Josh had broken his boutonniere, lost a button on his tux jacket, and spilled guacamole on my dad’s jacket all before pictures AND the ceremony?! Or when the videographer’s hair caught on fire and a fireman guest ran and put it out with his hands (she was not sure what he was doing of course)?! Those were all stressful things, but there were wonderful ones, too, like when all of my bridesmaids burst into an a’capella version of a Rhianna song to keep me from crying while I was getting my hair done.
Of course the wedding is just a day. After that day there have been 365×5 (don’t make me do math) days in which we have had to enjoy, defend, fight with, and survive each other. I still have so much to learn. What I didn’t know was how much inviting another person into my life would reveal about me. I expected the horrors of finding out that my spouse was a secret middle-of-the-tube toothpaste squeezer (seriously, who cares?) but not to find out that I am (oh yeah, like I’m going to tell you all one of my faults!). 🙂
In the end, we are still here, still fighting.
This is the song I’ve chosen for this anniversary:
Here are the lyrics for those of you who can’t do sound right now:
When I look into your eyes
It’s like watching the night sky
Or a beautiful sunrise
Well, there’s so much they hold
And just like them old stars
I see that you’ve come so far
To be right where you are
How old is your soul?
Well, I won’t give up on us
Even if the skies get rough
I’m giving you all my love
I’m still looking up
And when you’re needing your space
To do some navigating
I’ll be here patiently waiting
To see what you find
‘Cause even the stars they burn
Some even fall to the earth
We’ve got a lot to learn
God knows we’re worth it
No, I won’t give up
I don’t wanna be someone who walks away so easily
I’m here to stay and make the difference that I can make
Our differences they do a lot to teach us how to use
The tools and gifts we got, yeah, we got a lot at stake
And in the end, you’re still my friend at least we did intend
For us to work we didn’t break, we didn’t burn
We had to learn how to bend without the world caving in
I had to learn what I’ve got, and what I’m not, and who I am
I won’t give up on us
Even if the skies get rough
I’m giving you all my love
I’m still looking up, still looking up.
Well, I won’t give up on us (no I’m not giving up)
God knows I’m tough enough (I am tough, I am loved)
We’ve got a lot to learn (we’re alive, we are loved)
God knows we’re worth it (and we’re worth it)
I won’t give up on us
Even if the skies get rough
I’m giving you all my love
I’m still looking up
And more pictures! Because they cost a fortune, so why not?

One of my favorite pictures of my two cousins, Bree and Erinn, inexplicably both putting on my necklace. I just love this picture!
Congrats you two!! That was such an awesome day!! Love reliving the pictures!! Love u both!!
