Jacob is happy

A short video from his 11th week that I forgot to post!

Handmade with love

Before Jacob was born, I was lamenting that it seems as though no one knows how to make things anymore, and he wouldn’t have the handmade treasures that past generations would have had. Little did I know that he would be showered with handmade beauties. These are my favorite items; I absolutely treasure them. I want to start showing them off. I have photographed them and will post about them when I can.

First up: the outfit Jacob wore home from the hospital–these are the first pictures taken of him in his first minutes home! Made by his great-grandma Verla, the darling hat, blanket and booties are so beautiful. This was the first outfit I dressed my baby in.

Thought for the day

Thoughts right now

I wish I had more time to write, because I feel like I have so much to say. Alas, I never find the time. Jacob is asleep in the Moby wrap and I thought I’d write a portrait of my life these days.

This weekend was the biggest race event of Josh’s year (the one he cares most about): Vision Quest. I’ve posted about it in the past. It’s 11,000+ feet of climbing and over 56 miles of intense mountain terrain. It starts at 5:30 in the morning in the dark of Black Star Canyon. Each rider has 12 hours to finish, with cutoffs along the way. Josh rode it two years ago in just under 7 hours, and last year on a single speed (one gear!) bike in 6 hours, 48 minutes. He trained a ton this year and calculated (based on his time on portions of the race) that he would be doing better than last year. I waited at the first feed station (the bottom of the first of three peaks they climb to) and he was on pace to finish in under 6 hours this year (!!!) which would have put him in the top ten of all finishers, including pro riders. Unfortunately, he got one flat, then another, and then the sidewall of his tire ripped and his day was done. I was so heartbroken for him. We had even been eating special meals all week to prepare! He was a really good sport about it; going along with the support crew for his bike team to cheer on his friends. I was thinking, as I drove deep into the canyon in the dark, that I never thought I’d be driving my baby into Black Star in the black of night…the things you do for love!

Love we have in abundance over here. I just can’t get enough of my little man! He is so adorable and sweet…all I do is kiss him and snuggle him and make faces at him, and I feel like even all of my time is somehow not enough. He is growing so fast, and as you can see from the picture recap posts you’ll view on my blog this week, I have been waxing nostalgic. He is just so kissable and cute and amazing.

My days are busy, and not very “noteworthy,” but I can’t remember being happier.

Bathtime

You may remember his first bath? These days he’s fitting a little differently in the sink.

Here are a couple of pictures of him in the sink from January 20 (just over a month old) that I never posted:

And here he is at 3.5 months:

His legs barely fit in the sink when folded! He kicks them out constantly and sometimes that makes a mess. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have been considering moving him to the next stage in bathing, but the sink is pretty simple and easy on my back. Any suggestions?
