Quote of the day

“Movements are as eloquent as words.”

-Isadora Duncan

I like this quote today because right now, my little boy can only communicate with me through movement, and he is doing that often! I think he tries to reassure me that he’s okay by moving as often as possible. Sometimes he scares his daddy who sees my whole abdomen moving like it is full of snakes. Sometimes he keeps me away by trying to bust out my side with his hands or scraping his foot as hard as he can against my stomach. Even when it kind of hurts, I’m so thankful to know he’s okay! He is talking to me, telling me he’s fine, or maybe that he’s ready to see me?

38 Weeks!

Baby O is now just 2 weeks away from D-day (that’s delivery day).  I am technically due on December 11 (or 15th? apparently the doctor has the 11th so we’ll go with that now). He is now approximately 6.8 pounds and over 19 1/2 inches long. I went to the doctor yesterday for a rather disappointing visit. He (the doctor) can’t tell where the baby is, suspects he is breech or transverse, and scheduled me for an ultrasound today to find out! I was really worried I would need a c-section!!!! He still has time, which is fine, and I’m not anywhere near ready to have him, so we’ll wait. However, at this point, I guess it’s pretty unlikely (not impossible, but unlikely) that he would flip from breech to head-down from now on.

SOOOOO today was the ultrasound, and he is definitely head-down, which is great! He is also definitely, definitely, a boy! haha!! I am very relieved!

Three pictures for you today: me at 38 weeks, side and front, and two ultrasound pictures of the baby.

The top picture is his side facial profile (you can see his nose and lips on top) and the bottom picture has him staring right at you with his eyes on the right.

Christmas time!

I know it’s early, but I want to make sure that Jacob comes home to a Christmasy house! Just in case he’s early I didn’t think I had time to wait. Josh and I got our tree yesterday, and this morning after a delicious trip to The Original Pancake House for an apple pancake and some 49er flapjacks, I decorated the tree. I didn’t use all of my ornaments, and we got a smaller tree than usual…I also didn’t put up all of my decorations in an attempt to make things easier after the baby is born.

37 Weeks!

Welcome to week 37 (by the way, today I enter week 38…I’m a little behind?) oops!

This week, baby O is the size of a stalk of swiss chard, in other words, 19 inches long. He should weigh around 6 1/3 pounds. He is considered full term and could be born anytime, although studies have shown that it is best for the baby to cook for 39 weeks for optimum brain development. Officially I’m hoping to get to 39 weeks, but I will be happy with whatever timing he wants. I think babies known when they are ready much more than doctors do!

We have been wondering if he will have hair and if so, what color. I’m guessing he doesn’t have much, if any, hair. 🙂 But it could be 1/2 inch to 1.5 inches long!

The weekly update says I should probably be very uncomfortable and might not sleep well and, well yeah! DUH! I am humungous and carrying an extra large weight around on my front is pretty tiring. My hip/tailbone area is still killing me, but it tends to loosen up eventually during the day. Josh helps me out of chairs and up off of the floor most of the time now, and I feel like a beached whale in bed. Putting on shoes takes all the energy and breath I have!

Wish us luck, and another 2 weeks! (Well, one now) hehe.

Chicken and Tortellini Soup

Here is a recipe for your pre-Thanksgiving Sunday!

I made a soup that started with a recipe but morphed into something pretty different, so I’m going to type it up as my own. 🙂

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbl. olive oil
  • 1 C. mirepoix (chopped celery, carrot and onion)
  • 2 chopped garlic cloves/2 tsp. minced garlic
  • 5 cups chicken stock
  • 2 cubed cooked chicken breasts
  • 1 tbl. corn starch
  • 1 6 oz. bag of baby spinach (fresh)
  • 1 package (10 oz.) fresh cheese tortellini
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 1 tbl. Parmesan cheese

In a stockpot, heat some olive oil. Cook mirepoix and garlic until onions are translucent. Add chicken stock and cooked chicken* and return to simmer. [At several points I added some water if I thought there wasn’t enough broth.] Add 1 package tortellini and cook for 3 minutes. Add spinach and cook until wilted (3-5 minutes). Mix cornstarch in a small bowl with 2 tbl. water until dissolved and stir into soup. Add half and half and Parmesan. Stir and serve.
