The aftermath of a meal

As you can see, feeding oneself is a messy operation. Here is Jacob before his bath. He’s been taking several a day lately. 🙂

My little gourmand

Jacob is such a great eater. He really likes almost everything he’s had, and his adventurous attitude has led me to serve him things that would make a wide palate for a grown up. For example, tonight he had steamed broccoli with cheese, whole wheat pasta with butternut squash sauce, avocado, sautĂ©ed kale and garlic, and a purĂ©e (baby food) of beef and spinach. I try to give him some finger foods to help his coordination, along with any table foods that josh and I are eating that I deem acceptable for the baby, and store bought baby food to round out his protein and vegetable intake. I buy Plum or Happy Baby organic food in pouches and jars. Sometimes I will mix in a cereal of oatmeal, spelt and barley for some whole grain. The goal is to get him eating what we are eating, but that is hard with so few teeth. Last might we had chicken tacos, rice and beans. Since I made everything from scratch, I knew what was in it, which is a good start when you want to feed your baby table foods. The chicken and tortilla portion was not going to work without more teeth to chew it up, but he happily munched on beans and rice.

Here are some pictures from last night of the mess.

Dinner! BBQ Meatball Sandwiches

This dinner started with this recipe:

BBQ Meatball SlidersBBQ Meatball Sliders

I made a ton of meatballs and froze enough for several other dinners. I made sandwiches instead of sliders using ciabatta rolls. Instead of the cole slaw I made a simple red cabbage slaw which tastes great on the sandwich. I also sautĂ©ed some white mushrooms. I served it alongside barbecued corn, garlic fries, and a pasta salad. Yum!! The garlic fries are frozen from Trader Joe’s. I cooked all of this on the barbecue since it’s been so hot. The meatballs I grilled on a piece of foil, the fries in a barbecue basket. I grilled the soaked corn in the husk, and the rolls on the top rack of the grill.

My baby

I know you’re probably wondering where the 9-month post is! Truthfully, I’d like to take more pictures of him when I have someone to help me. He is so curious and moves so quickly these days! I promise not to start that post with “I can’t believe he is already 9 months old” so I’m going to say it here. Time is FLYING by. I still can’t believe I have been entrusted with such a sweet, perfect little life.

Here is your thought for today, Psalm 139: 13-16

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body

and knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!

Your workmanship is marvelous–how well I know it.

You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,

as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.

You saw me before I was born.

Every day of my life was recorded in your book.

Every moment was laid out

before a single day had passed.

I love you, my boy.
