Never let me go

Ahh motherhood. The days are long. The nights can be longer. Sometimes I just crave some space for myself–not to be touched for a few minutes. There are always little hands reaching for me. But I remember that they won’t always want to. As time passes, I won’t have small hands seeking my face in the dark, my hand in a crowd. So I hold on to these moments while I can.

Friendly

This little guy loves to smile at anyone he meets, but especially people he loves. I’ve noticed lately that as soon as big brother talks, baby brother smiles. 😍

My angels

Insert super-cliché phrase about kids being so sweet when they sleep. 😉
But seriously.

It’s wonderful.

Christmas is coming…

Isn’t it always?

I came across a great article about non-toy ideas that I thought would worth sharing. It’s not that I don’t want Jacob to have toys–of course I do–but there IS more to life. The appeal of opening a shiny new toy is obvious: it’s exciting and great! But it never gets as fun as that moment in time. I think toys that are educational or creative will get a lot of use, but beyond that, I just don’t want the “stuff” to overwhelm experiences. Both last year and this one I debated telling anyone who asked that a Disney gift card would be greatly appreciated as a gift in lieu of toys or clothes. Jacob gets a lot of clothes from the secondhand store my grandmother works at (thanks, Mimé!). There are always things he wants desperately, but I feel like our Disney passes (long since expired) led to a lot of fun experiences for him, and good bonding for us. Of course, with the price of passes increasing AGAIN just this month, it might take five years to save for them. That’s why I can never commit to my Disney-gift-card-plan. Anyway, enough from me, here is the article:

Penprase gals (and little guy!)

This weekend, all of the Penprases were in town for a wedding. I love this family. We all grew up together, and they are just great people. My Ashley now lives in Houston and my Brittany in Seattle. It’s so nice to have everyone in one place! At my baby shower for Jacob, everyone had a name tag, and the Penprase girls all had “Jacob’s Auntie” as their title. They are truly like family.

Jacob loves Ashley’s son Colton:

Dutch braid

Do you Dutch braid?

It’s like French braiding inside-out. It makes the braid sit on top of your head rather than blending into your hair. I want to do better, but I really love this new style. It’s weird how difficult it is to braid inside-out (you’re putting the pieces under rather than over) when my hands are so accustomed to French braiding. I feel very clumsy! But practice makes perfect…
