Jacob is such a great eater. He really likes almost everything he’s had, and his adventurous attitude has led me to serve him things that would make a wide palate for a grown up. For example, tonight he had steamed broccoli with cheese, whole wheat pasta with butternut squash sauce, avocado, sautéed kale and garlic, and a purée (baby food) of beef and spinach. I try to give him some finger foods to help his coordination, along with any table foods that josh and I are eating that I deem acceptable for the baby, and store bought baby food to round out his protein and vegetable intake. I buy Plum or Happy Baby organic food in pouches and jars. Sometimes I will mix in a cereal of oatmeal, spelt and barley for some whole grain. The goal is to get him eating what we are eating, but that is hard with so few teeth. Last might we had chicken tacos, rice and beans. Since I made everything from scratch, I knew what was in it, which is a good start when you want to feed your baby table foods. The chicken and tortilla portion was not going to work without more teeth to chew it up, but he happily munched on beans and rice.
Here are some pictures from last night of the mess.
