A trip to northern Michigan

Josh and I traveled to beautiful Traverse City, Mackinac Island, and Harbor Springs for the wedding of one of his high school friends. Josh and Kurt have stayed friends all these years, and we were honored to be there as he married Kammy. They met 12 years ago at USC, and had some touches of their alma mater in the details of their wedding. The fantastic affair had an amazing live band and ended with a long firework show. Amazing. Josh and I loved seeing the beauty of northern Michigan. We flew into traverse city, which has a lovely and small airport, and spent the first night just the two of us at the Sugar Beach Resort. We had dinner on a rooftop pizza place. The next day, we drove the hour and a half to Mackinac city where we took the ferry to the island and met up with Danielle and Jason. No motor-powered vehicles are allowed there, and the homes are out of this world. We took a horse carriage tour of the island. Then we were off to Boyne Highlands resort, where we should stay for the wedding. Friday night was a welcome dinner in Harbor springs, with a boat ride to see the “cottages” built before the Great Depression for some of America’s wealthiest families, where they still visit for six weeks each summer (and six weeks only). The cottages were amazing mansions in actuality for families like the Bissels. Saturday was the wedding, and we took a scenic drive down MI 119 the “tunnel of trees.” It is truly a special place. Enjoy some photos of our lovely weekend!
