Vegetables

I love vegetables, so I wanted to share this vision of our dinner.

First, beautiful brown button mushrooms from our CSA box. These were sautéed with onions and went atop a flatbread pesto pizza. We also had a spicy Asian soup (like a quick pho) with tofu topped with all the veggies you see here (and limes!) yum. Don’t you just want to go veggie crazy?

Baby’s First Easter Basket

The Easter bunny visited Jacob for the first time this year (he thought Jacob was too little last year) and brought him this lovely basket. What a lucky little guy! Egg-shaped sidewalk chalk, wooden crayons, Easter egg weeble wobbles, a little stuffed bunny, and some Easter rainbow goldfish crackers.

Sugar-free Easter basket!

Natural egg dye

This year we colored eggs (well I did) and I chose to use a natural egg dyeing kit. I ordered it online from www.weecantooart.com. The colors are made using naturally-derived, food-safe vegetable and mineral ingredients. It is definitely not the same as food coloring, but I think they are pretty in a watercolor sort of way. Also they are sparkly, which is awesome.

P.S. I used brown eggs, so I’m sure mine are much less pretty than they could be, but brown eggs are what I had. 🙂

What happens when daddy is in charge

As promised, the harrowing tale of parental supervision gone wrong!

One afternoon Josh was watching Jacob while I got ready to go somewhere. I was blow-drying my hair when Josh knocked on the door.

“You shouldn’t leave me in charge.” He said.
“What?! What do you mean?! Did something happen?!”
“He’s fine, but yes, something bad happened.”
“…?”
“Well he was playing under the table Nd I realized all of a sudden that it was really quiet.”
“…?”
“He was eating. A snail.”
“WHAT?!?!”
“Um, yeah. Sorry.”
“I think I’m going to barf.”
“…don’t worry. I took care of him. I got him all cleaned up.”
“But how did he get a snail? Under the table?!”
“You’re the one who cleans around here. How should I know how snails get in the house?”*

Right then, little Jacob comes toddling up to me. He gives me his biggest, dimply smile.

There are pieces if snail stuck in his bottom teeth.

“JOSH!!”
“…I guess I missed some.”

*I am not perfect, but I guarantee that snail was not inside the house. I’m quite certain it was carried in by the baby who later ate said snail. Just for the record.

Happy Easter!

I tried to ease him into this one so we didn’t have another repeat of the Santa incident. We stood nearby and waved, then moved closer. To be honest, I was a little freaked out by the bunny myself. I don’t know why exactly…I guess I felt like someone was hiding in there.
Anyway, Jacob cried. Then Josh had the great idea to give Jacob his car keys and we got a couple of decent pictures. Poor guy.
