A funny little joke I told

So today I had to get some bloodwork done. I was a little testy with the phlebotomist because it was more than difficult to get away from work this morning, and I had an appointment, and even called to make sure they were running on time…I was told they have a ten minute policy for appointments (where you are seen within 10 minutes of the appointment). I told her that never seems to be the case…She said I need to flag them down when it reaches 10 minutes because they will rush me in.

I raced over there and signed in, only to wait for 25 minutes before letting them know that my ten-minute window had more than passed, that I had even called and was on deadline for work and could not wait. He said that they had a “hard stick” back there and it would just take…longer. He called me back 5 minutes later and of course he was not having my jokes at all, which is why I’m going to try it out on you all!

He very testily took both of my arms and tied those rubber straps on them and tapped the veins, and then declared that my veins are “all very inconveniently located.”

I smiled and let him know that I’d issue a formal complaint to my maker about the location and lack of overall user-friendliness in the design of my vascular system.

Come on; that was at least kind of cute, no?

Bump PLUS!

Since posting the bump pics, I have received the wonderful compliment, twice, of how skinny I look in the first picture — but that was week 15! Second trimester! So I decided to tack on a look at the “before” so you can see how different things truly are.

Growing plus

Sad.

I’m bummed.

I knew it would happen, but I didn’t mind pushing it out of my mind for a while…

The Harley sold today. While it was a blessing, and much needed financially, I still didn’t want to see it go. Thankfully, I was at work. Josh sent me the “last picture.”

And I couldn’t help but feel pretty sad when I saw its empty space in the garage, and this on the pool table:

It doesn’t help that work was frustrating, I didn’t leave until after 6 p.m., and I was supposed to get blood drawn today and by the time I left, all the labs were closed.  But mostly, I’m just sad.

So here’s a trip down memory lane with my friend:

Corn!

Welcome to week 24, baby O. You are now, sort of, 6 months old (if you count months as groups of 4 weeks) which leaves you 16 weeks to cook. Don’t worry, I need all 16 and I don’t mind if you do, too.

You’re now the size of an ear of corn at almost 1′ long. You still weigh just over a pound, but that should start increasing rapidly now. You’re about to start gaining weight and filling out. Your lungs are developing as well, and preparing you for the important process of breathing. Your “room” is supposedly the size of a soccer ball – I’m not sure I feel THAT big.

I have a check-up next Tuesday (August 30) and I think we’ll be scheduling the glucose screening test (gestational diabetes test). If I “fail,” I’ll need to have a glucose tolerance test, which is, I think, a more intense version of the screening. The screening test is around 2 hours long and involves drinking a lot of sugary flavored water, which I’m told tastes like flat orange soda. Yum. I’m actually pretty worried about this test because I love my carbs! 🙂 I don’t expect there will be an ultrasound, but we’ll hear his heartbeat, which is always nice! I also see the endocrinologist* that day, so wish me well with no bad news from either!

24 weeks is an unofficial milestone – it’s about the earliest a baby can survive if born prematurely. Obviously, not a good thing, as you can tell from the lack of body fat and still-developing lungs, but possible.

Hilariously, these are the to-do’s this week from Babycenter.com:

This Week’s Activity:

Tackle your home improvement projects. Sit down with your partner and take stock of the things you’d like to fix around the house before your little one arrives. Then let your partner handle them. (You shouldn’t be exposing yourself to chemicals or getting up on ladders.) Some things for the list:

  • Install or check smoke detectors, get a fire extinguisher for each floor of your house, and plan a fire escape route.
  • Fix or remove any broken furniture or fixtures.
  • Paint the nursery, hang curtain rods, assemble new furniture.
Where is remodel half of your house?!
*Endocrinology has to do with glands and hormones in your body. I go to have my thyroid checked out, as I have hypothyroidism, or an under-active thyroid gland.

Baby update Mondays! Previously, I’ve been updating you with Baby O’s progress on Thursdays (if you’ve noticed) but that will change. I’ve decided to start your week with the fabulous news and get you all more on track with the baby’s progress. His week flips over on Saturdays, so Monday will be a nice time to check in on him. I have milestone belly pics (every 4 weeks) to post at some point, oh and…a name to reveal. That’s coming…and more.

The Bump

I know everyone loves to see these, and I’m cringing, but I’m doing it anyway!

Here is an assortment of second-trimester shots so you can see the growth. Things really start to happen after 20 weeks! Sorry I don’t have a super-cool time-lapse video for you, but I think this is interesting nonetheless!

Clean…and dirty again

I was relieved that the kitchen seemed so much cleaner when I got home on Tuesday night. The broken pieces of wood and scary things I won’t mention that fell from the attic were swept away, and the floor was covered in shiny new cement board.

But Thursday, when I came home, I walked in to this:

All of the walls and the ceiling are gone. Uh oh.

The good news is that Josh and Chuck (who was doing all the great electrical work in here) made some beneficial changes to the plan. We’re now getting LED lighting inside our cabinets on the left wall (which have glass doors and shelves for china/display) and under cabinet lighting! I’m really excited about it!

Chuck says Josh had some things rigged–what did he call it–“Josh’ed in” and Chuck’s brother Mike said “no more Osktricity.”

HAHAHAHA.
