This is a loose paraphrase from the service yesterday, but Rick Warren said something that I want to remember:
When our children cry, the first thing we say is “don’t cry!” As though crying is the worst thing that could ever happen to them. It’s not. Not feeling loved is the worst thing that could happen to a child. Don’t teach them to stuff their emotions.
This is profound. When we are uncomfortable with other people’s emotions, we want to “make it better,” but it is an important process. If you need to cry, cry. We were designed to. It’s how we get through.
