The day Jacob picked our dinner

today Jacob and I went to the grocery store. I picked this particular store because they have child-sizes shopping carts, and Jacob loves them. He and I did some serious produce shopping and he got to pick some snacks for himself (but I had to step in when he put five clusters of bananas in his cart). When the sprinklers turned on to mist the produce he was amazed. I said that the water makes the vegetables happy…so he patted some cucumbers and asked “are you happy now, little cucumbers?!”

At the back of the store he picked up a package containing a very pricey steak. Jacob has never eaten steak…he isn’t much of a meat eater at all, and typically will not eat anything identifiably “meat.” (This includes poultry). But today he held it up proudly and said “this is what I’ve been looking for! Meat!”

“Sorry, buddy, but that isn’t on our list.” I said. And then he put it up to his mouth. I heard the plastic squeak. He did put it back and started off in another direction with his cart. I picked it up to make sure he hadn’t broken the plastic wrap and that’s when I saw it: he had bitten the steak. There was a perfect impression in the meat of both rows of teeth.

Tonight, josh and I enjoyed a USDA prime, thick-cut, boneless New York steak, cooked beautifully. I definitely didn’t have that in mind for tonight, but it was delicious. He actually picked a great steak. I wouldn’t have spent the money on it, so I suppose he did us a favor? 🙂

30 weeks

i feel as though this should be a milestone of sorts, right? I have a hard time figuring out what month I am in (because 40 weeks = ten months!) but it’s hard to deny that time is passing quickly when there are only ten weeks left.  Two and a half months. (!!)

I love the amount of movement I’m  feeling. It’s so awesome to feel twitches and kicks. I am starting to have a hard time moving around: getting out of chairs or off of the ground is never pretty. Sometimes I feel like my stomach muscles are tearing apart. My legs have a lot more work to do…oh and I’m quite tired. Like, some days the post-dinner dishes feel like an insurmountable obstacle. This could also be due to the fact that j still have a sinus infection. It’s been so long… Five weeks? Six? My head feels foggy and heavy and I’m sure I’m feeling generally run down. I went to the doctor today and received three weeks of antibiotics. My original dose was ten days. I’m hoping the pressure in my head leaves soon.

In any case, I think I’m feeling pretty great, considering. I still get around pretty well and I get a lot done. I’m hoping I won’t get too much bigger.

We are close to a name! It’s true. I can’t publicize, because we haven’t really decided, but we are getting close. 🙂

Try again

After re-writing the “cute things” post 8 times, it finally works. If you already read it, you should probably read it again now that it is all there. 🙂

Cute things Jacob says

WordPress keeps deleting what I spend precious time typing. Sorry for the issues. Dear WordPress: knock it off!

oh my friends: Jacob is so cute. He says the cutest things all day. I can’t even write them all down because there are  so many. He just cracks me up. Oftentimes the things he says are so sweet or so intelligent that I am left wondering where this incredible little person came from. Here is a small sample.

About the new truck: “can I go with you to get it?”
“I don’t think so, buddy, because I have to go to work, too.”
“But I’m your best friend!”
Twoly woly road
The whole woild is the errff
What do you know…purple matches.
Right away! Now! Stad! Asa!
Sparkles are freckles
Koko I’m tired of chasing. Want to belax?
If daddy doesn’t give me more trail mix, my tummy will rumble.
Toe-let
Scrubby dubby
A-scusting
These are my favorite chips in the whole tired world.
Koko you are getting a bath because you are dtinky like skunk.
Slurpee = slappy then slompy drink then slampy
Chuck E cheezit
Mama, I love you as much as an elephant is big.
