Baby O2’s “Up, Up and Away” quilt
To begin with, much credit to my inspiration quilt, found on www.Pinterest.com which was apparently from a book called “Everyday Handmade.” I won’t link it here in case the publisher dislikes it being shared online. Now, I have never made a quilt. With a lot of questions to lovely friend Gail over Facebook messenger, I set out to attempt my first ever quilt.

She had a helpful suggestion that I cut the pennants in the size I wanted from freezer paper, and iron it onto the fabric. That way, I could cut my seam allowance and neatly iron the edges to the perfect shape made by a paper cutter, and then peel the paper off. The picture above shows many of them cut and ironed.
Next, I laid them on Wonder Under, a double-sided fusible webbing, as close as they could get to one another, and ironed the webbing on. This was another great suggestion of Gail’s. I peeled off the backing and then cut them apart. I laid them on the top fabric where I wanted them, and pinned them down, then ironed them in place one at a time.

My Wonder Under hint is to lay a damp dish towel over the item and webbing and iron through it. The paper side gets a bit crinkly, but it works great.
And then I sewed each part on, so easily since they were already clinging on from the fusible webbing.

After this i added the Rick-rack to the front and prepared the back.

Before quilting on my masterpiece, I quickly made a practice “quilt sandwich” that I could use for an accent pillow cover. I decided I thought that stitching inside the cloud might be too busy, or at the least should be approached a different way, so I’ll leave that decision for last. Here is my pillow:
Baby O2’s Nursery
While the physical room has had exactly zero progress made to it (wait, I did clear off some piles of goodness knows what!) the design and other planning-type preparations are moving right along. I don’t have a catchy name for this design, but it started with this beautiful hot air balloon mobile, so perhaps “Up, Up, and Away?” Or “Oh, the Places You’ll Go”?

I saw this darling mobile online probably two years ago and fell in love. The designer is a crafter from Australia who puts together craft kits…which means I am now the owner of the printed fabric panel that I will someday turn into these cute hot air balloons.
From there, knowing a little man was coming, I just got “carried away” (another name for this theme?) with the idea of clouds. In searching for cloud ideas, I found an inspiration quilt. I loved it immediately. It was not being sold anymore, and I wanted to put a more masculine spin on it, and now I am on the quilting phase of my FIRST QUILT. This is momentous! I absolutely adore it.
So cloud sheets:

With two other options to keep the general theme of bright colors:

A grey and white chevron crib skirt:

And the centerpiece…the quilt…
Here is a little tease and I’ll perhaps unveil it on Monday when it is finished? Close to finished? Hehe.
20 weeks
The halfway point! Already?!
I can’t believe it, but we made it to the halfway mark. Three more weeks to the “viability” date, and of course, a goal of twenty more weeks and a full-term guy. (39 weeks says March of Dimes)
I had an appointment this week wherein we discussed my headaches (maybe get a massage?), numbness in my hands (should peak at 28 weeks–so this could get worse?!?!), and my other small concerns; it seems they all come with the territory. I am developing something called SPD, which is a painful stretching of the hips in opposition. I got a sort of brace, and I tough it out. I’m still very sensitive to smells–today I gave my mom 80% of my scented products as I can no longer smell most of them without gagging. I’m tired, my feet hurt, but I can deal with all of that!
I’m making progress on some nursery projects which I can’t wait to share–maybe this weekend? Until then, here are the belly pics.

Get rid of greasy film on your stove!
It’s no secret that I cook a lot, and my black stove top has acquired a greasy film that will not go away. I’ve tried windex, dish soap, and other cleaners, but I finally have the answer, and it’s natural and non-toxic! It will also leave your kitchen smelling great–what is the downside here?
It is: lemon essential oil.
A couple of drops on a rag all over the enamel and glass followed by buffing the surfaces with a clean rag until they shine–with no rainbow-y residue. You can dilute the oil with water if you’d like, or just spread it on, adding a drop or two as you go if needed.
You’ll thank me!
Baby O2 updates
All is well.
I got to see him in the second trimester survey ultrasound, stretching his legs (with thighs that already seem to resemble Jacob’s–and Josh’s) and putting his delicate hand to his mouth, maybe to suck his thumb?
We are discussing names, but no, we don’t have one.
I’m working on the nursery. I will share an inspiration board next week. I have been making a quilt (!!!) for his room, and I’m super excited about it. I really love it. If someday he doesn’t like it anymore it will be my couch blankie. 🙂
I have an appointment tomorrow during which I’ll ask about the numb hands issue. This morning one hurt so much I was actually thrashing around in pain as I woke up. I shook it and dangled it over the bed and that hand would not stop hurting.
That’s all for now!
